Asbestos paper BE 0,4 mm is a flexible thermal insulation material made from fine-fiber chrysotile asbestos mixed with binders. It is resistant to high temperatures, has excellent fire resistance, and possesses good dielectric properties, making it indispensable in industrial applications. Asbestos paper is used to protect surfaces exposed to aggressive conditions, as well as to manufacture gaskets, seals, and equipment thermal insulation. Its structure ensures reliable protection over long periods of use, maintains its strength when heated, and is easily molded.

To obtain asbestos paper, asbestos is wet fluffed, and then sheets are made from the prepared mass on a sheet-forming machine. Depending on the degree of fluffing of asbestos and compaction of the mass on a sheet-forming machine, the volumetric weight of asbestos paper ranges from 450 to 950 kg/m3. At temperatures above 500°C, the fibers are destroyed as a result of asbestos dehydration (removal of water of crystallization), so a temperature of 500°C is the limit up to which asbestos paper can be used. The strength of paper is characterized by the so-called breaking length, which shows at what length (in m) a sample of paper will break under its own weight. This value is determined by calculation based on the results of tensile testing of standard paper samples using a dynamometer. The thickness of asbestos paper is from 0.3 to 1.5 mm, its weight per 1 m2 is 650-1900 g, normal humidity is not higher than 3%. Asbestos paper can be corrugated or smooth. Corrugated asbestos paper is made by passing smooth paper between two heated corrugated drums. Corrugated paper is used to make asbestos cardboard.

BT heat-insulating asbestos paper GOST 23779-95 is used for insulating hot surfaces (boilers, pipelines, steam lines, heating elements), in the production and heat treatment of metals, castings, etc. According to its intended purpose, asbestos paper can be heat-insulating (up to 500 ° C), electrical insulating (inter-turn insulation coils, production of laminated plastics), waterproofing (anti-corrosion coating, roofing and gasket material), diaphragm (production of diaphragms for the electrolysis of aqueous solutions of chloride salts of alkali metals), calender (stuffing on calender shafts in the production of capacitor paper). At the moment, asbestos paper is the best thermal insulation and sealing material, having such properties as fire resistance, alkali resistance, mechanical strength and durability.
