Steel key calibrated 40х20 steel 45 - is a mechanical connection element used to secure parts such as pulleys, couplings and gears on a shaft with torque transmission. It is made of durable structural steel, most often grades 40X and 45, providing greater reliability of the connection and wear resistance. Manufacturing includes heat treatment, calibration, cutting of the workpiece and milling. Due to the increased accuracy of dimensions and geometry, keys provide stable operation of the mechanism and a tight fit in the grooves. They are used in industrial equipment, machine tool building and mechanical engineering.

Carbon or alloyed structural steel, such as 45 or 40X steel, is used for manufacturing. The blanks can be in the form of calibrated rods or rolled products. The blank is cut into sections of the required length using mechanical shears, saws, band saws or automatic lines. The part is given the shape of a key by milling or drawing. The side and end surfaces are processed. Grinding or drawing is carried out to achieve precise dimensions and geometry. This ensures a tight fit of the key in the groove. To increase strength and wear resistance, the key is hardened and tempered.

The chemical composition of a steel key depends on the grade of steel it is made of. The most commonly used grades are 45 and 40X.

A key is a part that is used in connections involving a shaft and a hub. Thanks to the key, the parts are connected securely and do not move to the side. This makes it possible to transmit torque from the hub to the shaft or in the opposite direction. The key is designed to be installed in the grooves of two contacting parts to prevent relative rotation or displacement of these parts. The key is used to transmit torque in combination with a shaft, a pulley, a gear, a flywheel and others that rotate together with the shaft.
