Galvanized pipe

Galvanized pipe

The walls of pipes made of ordinary structural steel are easily subject to corrosion when in contact with water or humid air, not only contaminating the inner and outer surfaces with a layer of unpleasant-looking loose rust, but also slowly but surely destroying the metal to the point of making the product unsuitable for further use. If it is necessary to ensure the aesthetics of utility lines or to increase their durability at the expense of minimal financial expenditure, various methods of protection against unwanted oxidation-reduction chemical reactions are used. The best results for achieving the desired goal are provided by those having a barrier to the destruction of the structure created at the production stage galvanized pipes.

A thin layer of zinc applied to the surface does not prevent corrosion, but on the contrary takes it upon itself, gradually oxidizing instead of iron due to the formation of a permanent galvanic connection with it. Thus, steel, which takes all mechanical loads on itself, maintains its integrity for decades and reliably performs the functions assigned to it throughout the entire period of operation. Zinc hydroxide does not pose a serious threat to human health, therefore galvanized pipes are often used for the installation of cold water supply systems that provide people and livestock with clean drinking water.

Types of galvanized pipes for solving various problems

For solving various problems, certain types of galvanized pipes are more suitable. In this they are similar to the basic ones.coveredin the production of zinc types of ferrous rolled metal, so it is worth touching on these aspects in more detail, which directly affect the areas of application of the described materials.

Seamless galvanized pipes

In cold and hot rolling, much more energy is spent on creating sufficient forces to carry out the process and recycling the waste generated than in the production of products from flat strips of sheet metal bent into a cylinder and welded. For this reason seamless galvanized pipes among all analogues with the same galvanic protection against iron oxidation, they have the highest cost, therefore their use without economic feasibility leads to overspending of financial resources. It becomes justified when it is necessary to operate the system under high pressure or use it as a raw material for obtaining blanks for manufacturing connecting parts with large angle bends or deep threads.

Round welded galvanized pipes

On the contrary, along with the profile ones, the lowest cost is round welded galvanized pipes, therefore, in the absence of increased strength requirements, they are preferred. In addition to the creation of pipelines that do not operate under ultra-high pressures, a significant part of them is used as a structural material, since they not only, like most steels, have acceptable mechanical characteristics for this, but also do not suffer from the vagaries of the weather, both in the summer heat and in the winter cold.

Profile galvanized pipe

An even better option for assembling all kinds of metal structures is galvanized profile pipe, essentially initially and developed precisely for this purpose. Its most important features for practical application include the following:

  1. First of all, it is the geometric shape of the cross-section in the form of a square or rectangle, which allows for tight joining of individual parts into a single frame, as well as fastening to it the sheathing of sheet materials, both metal and polymer. It also provides, even with significant lengths of sections, sufficient rigidity to resist bending deformations.
  2. High dimensional accuracy between two pairs of opposite parallel outer surfaces allows avoiding distortions in the manufacture of large-area door leaves, swing, sliding and retractable gates and other similar moving products that require a tight fit when closed.
  3. The rather soft structural steel used as the raw material for production is easy to drill and does not interfere with the formation of the thread holding the screws. Due to this, installation work is facilitated, labor productivity increases, and the metal structure itself acquires decent strength.

An impressive range of galvanized pipes of various sizes and technologies used in their production allows, with a thoughtful approach, to choose the most optimal sample for solving the problem.
