Boiling point 90-135°. Dissolves many resins and improves varnish flow. Density 814 kg/m3.

Amyl alcohol C5H11OH. 1-pentanol, 3-methyl-1-butanol and 2-methyl-2-butanol are well soluble in water. Other isomers of amyl alcohol dissolve much worse in water. Solvent for paints and varnishes, extractant, component of pear essence. The name "amyl alcohol" refers to the normal (straight) form, 1-pentanol.

Application:

-Used as solvents, for oils, resins, fats, waxes.

-esters of amyl alcohols are solvents and plasticizers for polyvinyl chloride and cellulose acetate.
