It is used as a fertilizer in agriculture, in galvanics, as a catalyst and in the manufacture of dry batteries, and in industry to create manganese salts. In botany, manganese is important for normal photosynthesis and the functioning of enzymes in plants. It is made from metallurgical waste or pyrolusite.

Obtained from pyrolusite. Pyrolusite is treated with concentrated sulfuric acid upon heating. Manganese is reduced to the oxidation state. It is also obtained from metal waste or slag containing manganese. Such waste is dissolved in sulfuric acid, filtered, and then the solution is evaporated until crystallization.

If we talk about the most common form, it is a crystalline hydrate: manganese(II) chloride tetrahydrate. Its composition is one atom of manganese (Mn) and two atoms of chlorine (Cl).

Used: in galvanics for electrolytic coating with manganese, in the production of dry elements (batteries), for obtaining other manganese salts, as a catalyst in organic synthesis. In agriculture it is used: as a microfertilizer, especially for cereals, potatoes, vegetables, used in the form of solutions for foliar feeding.
