Monoethanolamine is obtained together with diethanolamine and triethanolamine by liquid-phase ammonolysis of ethylene oxide in the presence of a small amount of water in one stage at a temperature of 90-130 ° C and a pressure of 7-10 MPa. The resulting mixture of ethanolamines, water and ammonia is separated by distillation.

as absorbents for "sour" gases (H2S, CO2, SO2, etc.) in the process of purification of process gases at the enterprises of the oil refining, gas producing and chemical industries. The absorbed gas is released when the solution is heated, the regenerated monoethanolamine is recycled;

as a raw material for the production of emulsifiers, dispersants, foam stabilizers, detergents and cleaners, shampoos, surfactants, etc.;

to obtain ethylenediamine, N-vinylpyrrolidone and a number of other chemical products;

in pharmaceuticals as a buffering agent and for stabilizing emulsions;

in the production of herbicides, cosmetics, antihistamines.
