Toluenesulfonic acids are obtained by passing toluene vapor through sulfuric acid, and prolonged heating with recooling of a mixture of toluene with NaH3 (SO4). As a catalyst, r-toluenesulfonic acid is better, since the process proceeds with greater selectivity and with a higher yield of dipseudocumylmethane compared to the process in the presence of sulfuric acid. During crystallization, it has the form of colorless prisms; at 150 ° C, it undergoes hydrolysis.
