Sodium formate (sodium formic acid) 25kg, wholesale is a chemical compound with the formula HCOONa, a by-product of the production of pentaerythritol. Used as a reducing agent in organic synthesis. Technical sodium formate is sodium formate with a slight admixture of pentaerythritol and its derivatives. Technical sodium formate is used as an antifreeze additive in the production of building structures, in the leather industry as an agent in pre-tanning operations, as a raw material in the production of formic acid. White or gray crystalline powder without impurities visible to the naked eye. A greenish tint is allowed. Let's well dissolve in water, we will slightly dissolve in alcohols, we will not dissolve in airs. Explosion-proof and non-flammable, however, in places where sodium formate is stored and handled, smoking and open flames should be prohibited.
The chemical formula is HCOONa.
Where is it applied?
As an additive in anti-icing materials to reduce the impact on the environment and on the metal parts of transport, artificial structures of road facilities (corrosion inhibitor).
As an antifreeze additive, sodium formate is used in the construction of monolithic concrete and reinforced concrete structures, monolithic parts of prefabricated monolithic structures and embedding the joints of prefabricated structures, as well as in the manufacture of prefabricated concrete and reinforced concrete products at landfills with a steady average daily outdoor temperature below 5 degrees.
Concrete with this additive must not be used in prestressed structures reinforced with steel of classes AT-IY, AT-YI, A-IY and A-U, in concrete and reinforced concrete structures intended for operation in water and gaseous media with a relative air humidity of more than 60 % in the presence of reactive silica inclusions in the filler, in reinforced concrete structures for electrified transport and industrial enterprises using direct electric current.
Sodium formate is introduced into the concrete mix in the amount of: - 2% by weight of cement in terms of dry sodium formate at a design hardening temperature of up to -5°C - 3% of the weight of cement in terms of dry sodium formate at a design hardening temperature of up to -10°C C - 4% by weight of cement when converted to dry sodium formate at a design curing temperature down to −15°C.
When preparing concrete (mortar), the additive must be dissolved in warm water. The resulting solution is added together with mixing water. The resulting solution should be dosed into the concrete mixer through a chemical additive dispenser or through a water dispenser, while the mixing water consumption should be reduced by 7-13%.
