Basalt mineral slabs today occupy one of the first places in terms of consumer demand. The main area of application is insulation and thermal insulation. The construction of residential buildings and structures, as well as industrial facilities, cannot be done without this material. Using basalt slabs and wool, thermal insulation of pipelines, plumbing and heating equipment is carried out. The same material is used to insulate indoor and outdoor surfaces: roofs, floors, walls, attics, basements. The insulation is used as the bottom and top layer of sound insulation in the floors of flat roofs. Separately, it is necessary to say a few words about how to properly insulate a facade with a basalt slab. If the living space is sheathed from the inside, then condensation will form between the insulation and the wall due to temperature differences, which favors the development of an aggressive biological environment (mold, mold, etc.). But basalt slabs laid outside the building along the surface of the facade will retain heat in the room, prevent mold from developing and further improve the sound insulation of the entire building. Basalt insulation is widely used in industrial construction and in the energy industry (thermal insulation of boilers and furnaces at power plants). Basalt slabs and mechanical engineering are not overlooked. In this industry, basalt insulation is used to insulate the chambers of furnaces, refrigerators, and automobile bodies. Excellent material quality The good thermal insulation characteristics of basalt slabs are due to the low thermal conductivity of air. The multidirectional fibrous structure completely eliminates the free movement of warm air masses inside the material. Thermal insulating basalt slabs in a dry state have a thermal conductivity coefficient in the range of 0.04-0.047 W/m². Density of the material Modern manufacturers offer customers mineral basalt slabs with a density ranging from 35 to 200 kg/m³. For different types of construction work, materials with different characteristics are used. For example, for laying on a sloping roof, the density of basalt slabs should not be less than 30-40 kg/m³. Otherwise, the thermal insulation will sag over time. To insulate the external walls of buildings, experts recommend using basalt slabs with a density of 80 kg/m³ or more. In interior partitions, to improve sound insulation, material with a density of 50 kg/m³ is used. Insulating layer thickness: which is best? The answer to this question is quite simple. Heat retention indoors depends on two characteristics: the thickness and density of the slab. Therefore, the thicker the insulation, the better, and the denser, the warmer. For example, for a residential attic 150 mm is the required minimum thickness. The basalt slab must have a density of at least 30-40 kg/m³. The insulation layer for external walls is usually at least 100 mm thick. In general, in order to create conditions in a living space regulated by GOST 30494-96 (air temperature in the range of + 20-22˚С, relative humidity - 30-45%, absence of drafts), it is important to correctly use basalt thermal insulation materials. Soundproofing characteristics of slabs Basalt fibers in the structure of the material are located randomly in different directions, due to which basalt slabs have good acoustic characteristics. In a room with such insulation, the likelihood of vertical excitation of sound waves is significantly reduced. Airborne sound insulation and sound-absorbing characteristics of walls and ceilings in the room are improved. The reverberation time is significantly reduced (a gradual decrease in sound intensity when it is reflected multiple times). - Basalt and limestone, which are used to make slabs, are natural materials. Basalt is magma that once poured out from the bowels of the Earth and solidified. This material is perhaps the most popularwidespread on the earth's surface at present. Limestone is a sedimentary rock formed from calcite. Insulation with basalt slabs actually allows you to save energy reserves a hundred times more than is spent on their production: mining, processing, transportation.

Slab insulation

The name “basalt slab insulation” speaks for itself. Its purpose is to be an obstacle to heat exchange between heated indoor air and cold outdoor air. He copes with this task well. But in general, its advantages are determined by a combination of factors: affordability of prices with satisfactory quality, the ability to compensate for shortcomings with protective measures, etc. That is, it can be better, but it will be more expensive.

For insulation of what?

Yes, practically everything that may need building insulation. More specifically, basalt slabs are used for insulation:

     gender;

     walls;

     ceilings;

     doors;

     attics;

     roofs

This is not to mention the insulation of various pipelines and everything that has a temperature different from the ambient temperature and must either maintain it, or the opposite problem - surrounding objects should not be heated by a hotter object.

You can read more about what and how to insulate with basalt wool here.

For soundproofing

Another use of basalt slabs is for sound insulation. In this capacity, they can be considered not only as part of soundproof sandwiches, but also inside frame partitions. The minimum thickness of sound insulation using basalt wool is 50 mm. Of course, there are thinner types of sound insulation on sale, but they are designed for thin (10 cm) partitions and are not suitable for other walls. And 50 mm of wool becomes part of a composite consisting of a layer of wool and a plasterboard sheet, which increases the total thickness of the soundproofing layer.

The density of wool used for sound insulation varies quite significantly depending on the source of information. So some say that the density is from 30 to 50 kg per cubic meter, others call the range from 50 to 80 kg per cubic meter. We believe that the density is selected based on the task the protection faces: by how many decibels the noise level should be reduced. Density

The density of a basalt slab depends on how many stone fibers there are per unit volume. The more there are, the denser the cotton wool; the smaller, the fluffier it is. For mats, higher density means more rigidity of the mat, and lower density means more flexibility. In between rigid and flexible are semi-rigid.

The main thing
View by manufacturing method
Basalt thermal insulation slabs are made on the basis of super-thin basalt fiber. The binder is bentonite clay. Basalt fiber is produced by a one-stage extraction method from a basalt melt with simultaneous treatment of the primary thread with special lubricants to give the thread elasticity and compatibility with various types of resins: epoxy, epoxyphenol, phenol-formaldehyde. Basalt fiber mats (MBTV) are canvases of fibers obtained from the melt of rocks of the basalt group, additionally stitched with roving threads and twisted into rolls. Basalt cord is made from natural raw materials - basalt rock, which does not contain harmful impurities and does not harm the environment. Long-length basalt pierced heat-insulating strips are made on the basis of super-thin basalt fiber in a fiberglass shell on both sides and pierced with glass fiber.
