Silica fabric  КА-1100  900 mm is made from fibers with a high silica content. It can withstand temperatures up to 1000–1100°C for long periods, and up to 1200°C for short periods, and boasts excellent heat resistance. The material does not melt or burn, and maintains its strength even under extreme temperature fluctuations. Silica fabric is resistant to molten metal, sparks, fire, and most chemicals. Its low thermal conductivity provides excellent protection against thermal radiation. This fabric is widely used in the energy, metallurgy, shipbuilding, and aircraft industries, as well as for personal protective equipment, insulating coatings, and fire-retardant curtains and screens.

The main thing
View by manufacturing method
It is made from special glass fibers with a high silica content. First, continuous glass threads are produced by melting quartz or glass raw materials and drawing fine fibers. These fibers are then chemically treated—leaching—to remove alkaline and boron components from the structure. As a result, the SiO₂ content increases to 96–99%. After washing and heat treatment, the fibers are stabilized and acquire high heat resistance. The finished silica threads are spun into yarn, which is then woven on looms into fabrics of various weaves. If necessary, the material is additionally impregnated to improve its mechanical and protective properties.
Chemical composition
The chemical composition of silica fabric is characterized by a high silicon dioxide content, which determines its heat-resistant properties. The main component is SiO₂, accounting for 96 to 99% of the fiber. The remainder consists of minor impurities remaining after chemical processing of the fiber. These include aluminum oxide (Al₂O₃), calcium oxide (CaO), magnesium oxide (MgO), sodium oxide (Na₂O), and potassium oxide (K₂O)—usually in total quantities of no more than 1–3%. Iron oxides (Fe₂O₃) and boron oxides (B₂O₃) may be present in trace amounts.
Type by purpose
It is used in industries requiring reliable protection from high temperatures and fire. In metallurgy, it is used to make thermal insulation screens, protective curtains, equipment covers, and shelters for molten metal spills. In the power and chemical industries, the fabric serves as heat-resistant insulation for pipelines, furnaces, and reactors. In mechanical engineering, aircraft manufacturing, and shipbuilding, it is used for fire protection of structures and cable routes. Silica fabric is also in demand in the production of personal protective equipment—suits, capes, and gloves for welders and firefighters. In construction, it is used as a fireproofing and thermal insulation material.
