Thermal insulation cardboard VM 1000 5x1000x1000 mm is a sheet thermal and sound insulation material used in electrical engineering, construction, and industry. It is made from fiberglass, mineral, or cellulose fibers with the addition of special functional additives and binders. Its primary property is low thermal conductivity, ensured by the material's porous structure. Depending on its composition, thermal insulation board can withstand temperatures ranging from moderate to very high, and can be fire-resistant, dielectric, and heat-resistant. Easy to install and process, the lightweight material is used for insulating protective layers, shields, equipment, and gaskets where good thermal protection is required at a low thickness.

First, a base is prepared from cellulose and mineral fiber, starch, latex, and phenolic or urea resins. These raw materials are ground and dissolved in water to form a fibrous suspension. Binders and functional additives are added to the mass. The suspension is fed to a screen (similar to a paper machine), where a sheet of the desired thickness is formed. The sheets are dried at a controlled temperature. Infrared or convective drying is sometimes used. Impregnation with fire retardants, calendering (surface smoothing), or lamination are also possible.

Chemical composition

Main composition: cellulose (C₆H₁₀O₅)n — 70–90%, lignin — 3–10%, hemicelluloses — 5–15%, water repellents (paraffins, silicones).

Cardboard is used for: thermal insulation of boilers, furnaces, and drying chambers; gaskets in heat exchangers; insulation of chimneys and flues; protection of metal structures from overheating; thermal insulation gaskets and underlayments; insulation of walls, ceilings, and roofs; insulation of ventilation ducts; sound and thermal insulation of partitions; gaskets between hot areas; heat shields; and insulation of equipment housings.
