First, nickel (base, usually 60–80%) and chromium (about 20%) are mixed in certain proportions, sometimes with the addition of iron, aluminum, or other elements. These components are melted in electric furnaces at temperatures above 1500°C. The finished melt is poured into molds to produce ingots. After cooling, the ingots are subjected to hot and cold rolling - they are gradually converted into thin sheets. The sheets are processed to the desired thickness, usually from 0.01 mm to 1 mm. This is done using rollers on rolling mills. Then the workpiece is heat treated to relieve internal stress. The tape is annealed in a protective atmosphere (usually hydrogen) to improve the structure of the metal. After this, grinding and edge trimming are carried out to give precise dimensions.

Nichrome tape has a high specific electrical resistance. Therefore, the main area of ​​application is resistance installations, heating block elements, creation of responsible components of intra-vacuum devices.
