It is made from mineral fillers, rubber binders, and synthetic fibers, completely eliminating the use of asbestos. This means the material meets modern environmental requirements and is safe for health. Asbestos-free paronite boasts high heat resistance and is resistant to many chemical environments, steam, oils, water, and fuel. It maintains its strength and elasticity under high pressure and temperature fluctuations, ensuring durable and reliable equipment sealing.

It is produced from natural or synthetic graphite by processing it into expanded (exfoliated) graphite and then forming sheets. The process begins with cleaning and grinding the raw graphite, after which it is treated with chemical reagents and subjected to heat. When heated rapidly, the graphite particles swell, increasing in volume tenfold, forming a porous structure. The resulting expanded graphite is pressed under high pressure without the use of binders, forming dense sheets of a specified thickness. In some cases, reinforcement—metal foil or stainless steel mesh—is added to the sheet to increase mechanical strength. After pressing, the material is calibrated, cut to size, and, if necessary, undergoes additional surface treatment.
Chemical composition
The material is primarily carbon (C), with its mass fraction typically ranging from 95–99.5%. Trace impurities may also be present, including oxygen, sulfur, and ash substances (silicon, aluminum, iron, and calcium oxides), with total content typically not exceeding 0.5–3%. If the sheet is reinforced, metal foil or mesh is additionally used, most often made of stainless steel (Fe, Cr, or Ni).

It is used as a sealing material in a wide variety of applications. It is employed in mechanical engineering and the automotive industry to seal gaskets in engines, pumps, compressors, and gearboxes. In the oil and gas and chemical industries, it is used in flanged connections of pipelines, valves, and heat exchangers handling oils, fuels, gases, and aggressive media. It is also widely used in the power industry, heating and water supply systems, and in food and pharmaceutical industries, where environmental safety and the absence of harmful emissions are important.
