Carbon fiber tape, unidirectional 2.5 cm is a modern composite material made from continuous carbon fibers bonded with a binder and oriented in a single direction. It features high tensile strength, low weight, and resistance to chemicals and corrosion. Carbon fiber tape is often used in shipbuilding, aviation, mechanical engineering, and construction to reinforce metal, concrete, and reinforced concrete structures. The material effectively increases the load-bearing capacity of components without significantly increasing their size or weight. Carbon fiber tape is also used in high-tech products and sports equipment, where reliability, durability, and rigidity are essential.
The main thing
View by manufacturing method
First, carbon fiber is produced, typically from polyacrylonitrile (PAN) raw material. The fibers undergo oxidation and multi-stage heat treatment at high temperatures in an inert environment, resulting in the formation of a strong carbon structure. The finished fibers are then aligned and laid parallel in one direction, forming a tape of a specified width and density. The fibers are then impregnated with a polymer binder, most often epoxy resin, or left dry for subsequent impregnation during installation. Finally, the carbon tape is stabilized, dried, and wound into rolls for storage and transportation.
Chemical composition
The material is based on carbon fibers containing up to 95–99% elemental carbon (C), formed into an ordered graphite-like structure. Trace amounts of trace elements of the original raw material—hydrogen (H), nitrogen (N), and oxygen (O)—may be present. If the carbon tape is impregnated with a binder, it additionally contains polymer components, most often epoxy resins, which contain carbon, oxygen, and hydrogen.
Type by purpose
Carbon tape is used in various industries due to its high strength and light weight. In construction, it is used to strengthen and repair concrete, reinforced concrete, masonry, and metal structures, such as beams, columns, floors, and bridges. In mechanical engineering, carbon tape is used to increase rigidity and reduce weight. In the aviation and shipbuilding industries, it is used in the manufacture of composite hull and structural elements. Carbon tape is also used in the energy sector, sports equipment, robotics, and the production of high-tech products that require high reliability, durability, and load resistance.
