Fluoroplastic is the general name for fluorine-containing plastics obtained by polymerization of tetrafluoroethylene. It is synthesized in the form of a white powder that easily forms lumps. For the production of fluoroplastic products, it is pressed and sintered at high temperatures in special ovens. Fluoroplastic can contain from one to four fluorine atoms, which is reflected in the name of its types (fluoroplastic Ф4, Ф3, Ф2, Ф1). Fluoroplastic is excellent for processing, it can be drilled, sanded, milled and turned. In this way, parts of any shape, size and complexity can be made from fluoroplastic. Based on fluoroplastic, various composites are produced by mixing it with coke, molybdenum disulfide, carbon fiber, glass fiber, boron nitride, cobalt blue, etc. in different proportions, which changes the characteristics of the material and finished products from it.

Designed to work with aggressive liquids and gases, with the exception of solutions of alkali metals, chlorine trifluoride and elemental fluorine. The unique properties of fluoroplastic allow this material to be used as a sealing element. FUM tape is used for sealing threaded connections of pipelines made of all materials operating at temperatures from -60°C to +200°C and medium pressure up to 10 MPa, as well as for sealing systems with general industrial type media and highly aggressive media. Using FUM tape, systems with both concentrated and dilute solutions of acids and alkalis, systems with general industrial type media and those operating with strong oxidizing agents are compacted. Quite often, fluoroplastic tape is used when performing the following types of work: Plumbing. Installation of gas pipelines. Laying the heating system. Installation of water supply. It has also found application as a connecting material in equipment that must have a high degree of tightness and chemical resistance.
