First, monomers are fed into a reactor and carefully dosed in the required proportions. Then, using catalysts and emulsifiers, emulsion or suspension polymerization is initiated, forming ABS granules—small plastic particles with a uniform phase distribution. The resulting mass is washed, residual monomers are removed, dried, and passed through a granulator. The resulting granule is homogeneous ABS plastic, ready for processing. The granules are then fed into an extruder, where they are heated to 210–250°C. The molten ABS passes through a flat die, forming a continuous sheet. The sheet is then cooled on calenders (rollers), which allows for a smooth or textured surface. After cooling, the sheet is trimmed, polished, and cut into the desired formats.

ABS plastic is widely used for electroplating and vacuum metallization. It is easy to weld and is also used for precision casting. ABS plastic and its compositions are widely used in the automotive industry. Based on it, plastic parts for interior and exterior trim of cars are produced. These are panels, frames, shields, door trims, window frames, interior parts, wheel caps, radiator grilles, mirror and lamp housings, bumpers, door trims. In instrument making, ABS plastic is used as a structural material for housings of power tools, household electrical appliances, refrigerators, televisions, and batteries. CDs and DVDs are made from ABS plastic.
