PET plastic, polyethylene terephthalate (lavsan) black rod 50х1000 mm is a durable and wear-resistant polymer material, which is made on the basis of polyethylene terephthalate. It is resistant to aggressive chemical environments and abrasion. This material has high mechanical strength. Rods of this type are used in such areas as: food industry, electronics and mechanical engineering. They are easy to machine and have a long service life. This material is excellent for the manufacture of various parts in mechanisms, such as bushings, guides and others.
The main thing
View by manufacturing method
Polyethylene terephthalate is produced by polycondensation of terephthalic acid (or its dimethyl ether) with ethylene glycol at high temperatures. This forms long polymer chains. The resulting granulated PET is heated to its melting point (around 250–270°C). The molten material is fed under high pressure into an extruder, where it is formed into a rod of the desired diameter. The formed rod passes through cooling baths or air cooling to harden, maintaining its shape.
Chemical composition
The main monomers are: terephthalic acid and ethylene glycol. The process of formation of polyethylene terephthalate occurs as follows - in the reaction, ethylene glycol combines with terephthalic acid, forming a complex polyester with regular alternation of links through ester (–COO–) groups.
Type by purpose
Polyethylene terephthalate is used to produce plastic bottles for water, drinks, oil, containers and film. In the textile industry, it is used to make synthetic fabrics - lavsan, terylene, dacron. It is used to make ropes, nets and belts. In the field of mechanical engineering and electronics, it is used to make: insulating materials and parts of mechanisms that require strength and wear resistance. In the construction industry, it is used to strengthen building materials.

Polyethylene terephthalate rod standards
EN 15860:2018 - Requirements and test methods for thermoplastic semi-finished products for machining. This standard covers marking, porosity, thermal and mechanical properties, dimensional tolerances, appearance, geometry, and material. It covers the following characteristics: surface quality, mechanical properties, dimensional stability, internal defects, curvature, ovality, and core diameter.
ISO 527 - standard specifies methods for determining the mechanical properties of plastics under uniaxial tension. It is used to determine the tensile behavior of the material, strain at maximum load, elastic modulus, elongation, yield strength, and tensile strength.
ISO 178 - standard specifies a method for determining the mechanical properties of plastics under static bending. This standard is used to determine the behavior of the material under bending load, stress at a given strain, bending strain, elastic modulus, and flexural strength.
