It is produced by bonding a lightweight foamed polystyrene layer with outer coverings of paper, cardboard, or plastic. First, a foamed polystyrene (PS) board is used as a core, created by extruding granules under high temperature and a blowing agent. The result is a lightweight, porous material with a smooth structure. Then, the facing layers are prepared. The outer layers are durable coated paper, cardboard, or PVC film. They are fed into the line along with the polystyrene board. The facing and core are then bonded under pressure and temperature using hot-melt adhesive or polyurethane adhesive. The finished sheets are cooled, aligned, and cut into standard formats.
Chemical composition
The base material is polystyrene (C₈H₈). Blowing agents (such as butane, pentane, or CO₂) are added during the foaming process. The facing layers are coated paper or cardboard, consisting of cellulose (C₆H₁₀O₅).
Type by purpose
The main areas of use of the material are the following: design, construction, interior design of premises and building facades. Foamed polystyrene is used as insulation for external walls of buildings and structures; production of disposable sterile instruments and containers for medical needs; production of electrical insulating products, housings, casings for electrical devices and equipment; creation of advertising and information signs, both for indoor and outdoor installation: signs, guides and explanatory signs, lightboxes, door signs and much more; production of stencil bases in the printing industry; in the food industry, most disposable tableware and containers for packaging dairy, meat products, and egg trays are made from polystyrene; in the agricultural industry, transparent polystyrene is used as a glass substitute in the construction of greenhouses, greenhouses, greenhouses, and flower beds; the material is used as enclosing structures for shower cabins and partitions in bathrooms. Many elements of sanitary fixtures are made of polystyrene.
