It is made from polyvinyl chloride with the addition of plasticizers, stabilizers, and dyes. First, the mixture is fed into an extruder—a device where the material is heated to approximately 150–200°C. The molten plastic is then forced through a slot die, forming a wide film or ribbon strips of the desired thickness. The hot ribbon then passes through a cooling bath filled with water, where the material hardens. It is then polished and leveled. The finished ribbon is cut to width and wound into rolls.

Chemical composition

It is a thermoplastic polymer obtained by the polymerization of vinyl chloride (CH₂=CHCl). Its chemical formula is [–CH₂–CHCl–]ₙ. PVC itself is rigid, so it must be plasticized for curtains. The plasticizers used include dioctyl phthalate, dioctyl terephthalate, and dioctyl sebacate.

Type by purpose

Used to separate production areas (for example, hot, cold, or clean rooms). These tapes are also used as thermal insulation curtains on the doors of refrigeration and freezing rooms. They are often seen in areas frequented by forklifts—the transparent PVC tapes allow for the visibility of vehicle and occupant movement. They are popular in stores and supermarkets for separating refrigerated display cases and storage rooms. They are often used in frozen food warehouses to help retain cold and save energy. These curtains protect against splashes and drafts in car washes. They can also be used in greenhouses and hothouses to protect plants from temperature fluctuations.
