Asbestos-free paronite is manufactured using calendering or hot pressing from a composite mixture. Synthetic or organic fibers (aramid, cellulose, or glass) serve as the base, replacing asbestos and providing strength. Elastomeric binders, most often based on NBR rubber, are also added to the mixture, as well as mineral fillers to enhance heat and chemical resistance. All components are thoroughly mixed until homogeneous, then formed into sheets of the desired thickness and heat-treated.

Chemical composition

The base is made of synthetic fibers—most often aramid, cellulose, or glass. Elastomers are used as binders, primarily nitrile butadiene rubber (NBR), less commonly EPDM, or other specialty rubbers, depending on the intended use. Mineral fillers (graphite, talc, kaolin, sulfates) are also included.

It is used as a sealing material in a wide variety of applications. It is employed in mechanical engineering and the automotive industry to seal gaskets in engines, pumps, compressors, and gearboxes. In the oil and gas and chemical industries, it is used in flange joints for pipelines, valves, and heat exchangers handling oils, fuels, gases, and aggressive media. Non-asbestos paronite is also widely used in the energy sector, heating and water supply systems, and in food and pharmaceutical industries, where environmental safety and the absence of harmful emissions are important.
