Materials used
The most common alloy from which stainless steel expanded metal is made is AISI 304, 316 and 321. The choice of a particular material depends on the operational requirements rather than on the wishes of the customer. The AISI 304 grade is the optimal solution for most applications. This alloy corresponds to the Russian 08X18H10, refers to low-carbon, non-magnetic steels alloyed with 18% chromium and 10% nickel. PVL is made from flat metal strips made of steel. There are expanded metal sheets based on aluminum, copper, brass, but in practice they are extremely rare. For the manufacture of PVL, cold-rolled, hot-rolled and galvanized steels are used. Each of the materials has both advantages and disadvantages - consider these materials in more detail:
Hot rolled products. These objects are made from thick metal slabs, which are smelted in open-hearth furnaces. Before production, finished slabs are pickled or machined, and harmful metal scale is removed. After that, the processed slabs are rolled out with the help of presses into thin metal strips with a thickness of 2 to 50 millimeters. Hot rolled strip has many advantages - ease of production, low price, good strength. However, they also have disadvantages - an ugly appearance, susceptibility to corrosion during prolonged contact with water.
Cold rolled products. Cold-rolled products are obtained from hot-rolled blanks by additional pressing. A feature of cold-rolled technology is that the material is not subjected to heating, which complicates production, but makes the strips of better quality and strength. At the initial stage of production, mechanical or chemical etching can be performed. Cold-rolled strips have the following advantages: they look good, withstand mechanical loads well, tolerate contact with liquids and chemically active substances well. However, cold-rolled objects are much more expensive than hot-rolled ones.
galvanized products. The perforated sheet is made from galvanized sheet steel. For the manufacture of this material, cold-rolled or hot-rolled products are used, which undergo chemical or electromechanical galvanization. During galvanizing, the product is covered with a thin layer of zinc, which eventually becomes covered with a protective oxide film. Thanks to this double coating, contact of the product with the external environment is minimized, so such sheets do not rust even in case of prolonged contact with water or chemically active substances. The disadvantage of galvanized blanks for the production of PVC is a very high price, which in some cases makes their use economically impractical.
The punched sheet is made by the conveyor method, and the production algorithm looks like this:
Applying serifs. Using a knife, small diamond-shaped notches-holes are applied to the surface of the workpiece. Holes are applied in a checkerboard pattern (in the future, the material will be subjected to transverse deformation). To make the serifs of high quality, knife machines are used that allow you to create holes over the entire plane. In order to save money, cut-off metal fragments can be sent for remelting.
Workpiece stretching. After applying diamond-shaped serifs, the edge of the sheet is tucked into a device that stretches it using the transverse deformation method. During stretching, the length of the sheet increases by 30-50% depending on the type of steel and its physical properties. The resulting blanks can be used as a full-fledged expanded metal sheet, however, in practice, the blank usually goes through one more stage of processing.ki - rolling
Cold rolling. During rolling, the product is placed on a long conveyor, along the entire length of which several roller presses are installed. When PVL passes through the press, a transverse deformation of the product occurs, which leads to an increase in its length and a decrease in thickness. Cold rolling makes the sheet flatter, which has a positive effect on strength and stability. Please note that rolling is done cold without heating the workpiece, as heat treatment can damage the metal "links".
Expanded PVC sheet has the appearance of a flat surface, which has large holes-cells. This material is made of steel alloys, and the main material is hot rolled, cold rolled and chrome plated. The presence of cells can significantly reduce the weight of the material, which simplifies its use.
