Seamless metal pipe: types, characteristics and applications
Content:
Despite the active introduction of pipes made of macromolecular compounds, or polymers, into all areas of industry, seamless steel pipes continue to remain popular, and in some areas of human activity they are completely irreplaceable. For example, when assembling water supply circuits in production, only such products are still used. This article is about the types of seamless pipes and their characteristics.
Seamless metal pipe: types, characteristics and applications
Types of steel pipes
Among many, steel pipe has gained the current popularity for its strength and durability. It still continues to be used in the creation of gas and water pipelines, as well as in construction. The production of seamless steel pipes continues to develop rapidly in Russia.
The main feature of seamless pipes is their resistance to heavy loads. It would be most expedient to appoint seamless steel pipes when installing a water collector.
Seamless pipes do not stop being used in gas, water and other communications, despite the wide popularity of metal-plastic pipes. Seamless steel pipes, in addition to their main advantage in terms of pressure and loads, have a couple more advantages - this is a time-tested technology and affordability. This pipe option is best suited for determining "price - quality".
The defining factor of seamless pipe is that it can become a blank for cold rolled pipes. In the current case, cold and drawn rolling methods can be used.
This product, like most others, is manufactured according to known standards. There are different GOSTs for different areas of application of the product. For example, seamless pipes used in the petrochemical refining industry are chemically treated.
For diesel pipelines, aviation, shipbuilding structures, boiler equipment and other areas of activity, there are their own GOSTs for seamless steel pipes. Each individual standard mentions not only the scope in which this product will be used, but also the very feature of production. Several factors are taken into account in the manufacture of seamless steel pipes. For example, it is imperative to take into account the characteristics of the pipeline. When manufacturing a pipe that is exactly suitable for all criteria, it will not be superfluous to know the pressure, chemical aggressiveness and quality of the transported medium. During construction, all this must be taken into account for safety, because the pipeline is presented as a system with different pressures in different sections.
The TRUBPROM company provides a huge selection of seamless pipes, which differ in certain sizes and characteristics.
Hot-formed pipes consisting of alloyed and carbon steel of the universal direction refer to GOST 8731-74. GOST 8732 and GOST 9567 contain indications of tolerances and dimensions of seamless pipes. And GOST 8732-78 contains a range for steel seamless hot-formed pipes. Also, this standard extends to hot-formed general purpose steel pipes, being manufactured in length, wall thickness and outer diameter. Pipes made of steel are divided into such groups, depending on the quality indicators - A, B, C, D and D. This type of metal products includes cold-formed and heat-formed general-purpose pipes made of carbon and alloy steel, manufactured according to the outer diameter, wall thickness and length .
The range of pipes corresponds to GOST 8734-78 PDF.
Depending on the ratio of the outer diameter (Dn) to the wall thickness (s), pipes are divided into:
especially thin-walled Dn/s more than 40 and pipes with a diameter of 20 mm and with a wall of 0.5 mm or less;
thin-walled at Dn / s from 12.5 to 40 and pipes with a diameter of 20 mm or less with a wall of 1.5 mm;
thick-walled at Dn/s from 6 to 12.5;
especially thick-walled at Dn/s less than 6.
Depending on the quality indicators, pipes should be manufactured in the following groups:
B - with standardization of the chemical composition of calm steel grades according to GOST 1050 PDF, GOST 14959 PDF, GOST 4543 and GOST 19281 PDF;
B - with standardization of mechanical properties, controlled on heat-treated samples and chemical composition, from steel grades according to GOST 1050 PDF, GOST 14959 PDF, GOST 4543 PDF and GOST 19281 PDF. Mechanical properties standards must comply with the requirements of the relevant steel standards;
D - without rationing of mechanical properties and chemical composition, but with rationing of test hydraulic pressure;
E - after special heat treatment. Steel grades, heat treatment mode and mechanical properties standards are established by documentation approved in the prescribed manner.
Pipes are produced thermally processed. Without heat treatment, pipes are produced in which the ratio of the outer diameter to the wall thickness is 50 or more.
