To make asbestos cement, a special grade of Portland cement, asbestos and water are used. Before use, natural asbestos is additionally loosened using dry, semi-dry and wet methods. After mixing, water is removed from the suspension by mechanical extraction, vacuum dehydration and other methods, after which the products are subjected to hydrothermal treatment at a temperature of 50-70 °C. The final product consists of 13-17% asbestos. Sometimes quartz sand is added to the mixture. Flat asbestos-cement sheets are divided into two groups: pressed; without pressing. Pressed ones are more popular in private housing construction. It is produced by pressing on it with a press.

Type by purpose
Slate is used to cover roofs, build walls of utility rooms and for other purposes. Before laying begins, the tiles are sorted by height. The laying begins from the bottom of the roof, from the gutter, the tallest tiles are laid first, then the smallest ones go closer to the top of the roof. This type of masonry is suitable for roofs of any shape, and as a result of all efforts, only original roofs are obtained. Covering slate roofs with standard masonry requires that the tiles be used in standard sizes. But there are many templates for such masonry: scaly, acute-angled, pointed, with a smooth edge, octagonal, “fish scales” and others. Additional elements: edges, ridges, grooves are supplied with tiles for standard masonry, which greatly simplifies the work. Pattern masonry is most often used for roofing roofs of simple shapes.
