Aluminous cement GC 40 is a special type of binder distinguished by its high aluminum oxide content. It is created by sintering or melting limestone and bauxite, followed by grinding the resulting clinker. The main advantage of this type of cement is its strength gain and rapid hardening, even at low temperatures. This makes it widely used in the construction of emergency and non-urgent facilities, as well as for repair work. High-alumina cement is highly resistant and fire-resistant to aggressive environments, making it indispensable in the manufacture of refractory structures, in the chemical industry, and in metallurgy.

The main thing
View by manufacturing method
High-alumina cement is made from raw materials with a high aluminum oxide content—most commonly bauxite and limestone. First, the components are crushed and thoroughly mixed in specified proportions. Next, the mixture is heat-treated using one of two methods: sintering or melting. During sintering, the raw materials are fired in kilns at temperatures of approximately 1300–1400°C until clinker is formed. During melting, the mixture is heated to higher temperatures (up to 1500–1600°C), the melt is cooled, and a dense material is formed. The clinker is then crushed and finely ground in mills to a powder.
Chemical composition
The chemical composition of high-alumina cement is determined by its high aluminum oxide (Al₂O₃) content, which typically ranges from 35–80% depending on the grade. The second main component is calcium oxide (CaO), which makes up approximately 20–40%.
Type by purpose
High-alumina cement is used in applications requiring high strength, rapid hardening, and resistance to aggressive conditions. In construction, it is used for emergency and urgent work—for example, during the repair of bridges, roads, foundations, and hydraulic structures, when rapid restoration is essential. It is widely used in metallurgy for the production of refractory concrete and furnace linings due to its high temperature resistance. In the chemical industry, it is used due to its resistance to acids and aggressive environments. High-alumina cement is also in demand in the production of heat-resistant products and refractory mortars, as well as in the construction of structures operating in humid environments or subject to temperature fluctuations—for example, sewer pipes, sewer systems, and reservoirs.
