This material has high resistance to temperature changes, aggressive chemical environments and high humidity. It is also very durable and flexible. Polyethylene sheets are used to create protective coatings, temporary shelters, packaging of goods and waterproofing. First, high-density polyethylene granules are fed into an extruder—a long cylinder with a rotating screw that heats and melts the material. The melt passes under high pressure through a flat die (a slit of the required width), forming a continuous sheet—the future sheet. The hot melt then enters a calibration table or cooling rollers, where the sheet is cooled with water or air, leveled in thickness, and given a smooth or textured surface. After cooling, the sheet is cut to size. Heat treatment is performed if necessary.

Chemical composition

HDPE polyethylene sheet has a simple composition based on carbon (approximately 85.6%) and hydrogen (approximately 14.4%). Additives may be used in industrial sheet production (in very small quantities—0.1–2%).

It is used to manufacture protective and wear-resistant linings, guides, gaskets, gears and bearings, components for equipment exposed to aggressive environments, and sheets for wall and floor cladding in industrial facilities. It is also used to make waterproofing barriers, concrete underlayments, pool and canal linings, pier fenders, decking, pontoons, and floating structure components. It is also used to manufacture pallets, sides, and decking for trucks.
