View by manufacturing method

First, a rubber mixture is prepared from natural rubber, carbon black, sulfur, plasticizers, and stabilizers. The mixture is then placed in a steel/aluminum mold. Vulcanization occurs for 5–10 minutes under a pressure of 5–10 MPa and a temperature of 160–180°C. After cooling, the finished mudguard is obtained with the specified thickness and texture. The edges are then trimmed. Reflective tape or metal piping is applied if necessary. Perforations are made for mounting.

Chemical composition

Mud flaps are typically made of technical vulcanized rubber—a mixture of natural or synthetic rubber with various additives. The approximate composition is as follows: rubber, carbon black, sulfur, softeners, vulcanization activators (zinc oxide, stearic acid), and a reinforcing layer (nylon, nylon, fiberglass).

Type by purpose

Mud flaps prevent water, mud, gravel, and snow from spraying from under the wheels. Without them, water and mud fly backward and to the sides, blinding drivers behind and dirtying the bodywork. This is especially important for multi-wheel trailers and dump trucks, where the spray is very powerful. They reduce contamination of fuel tanks, pneumatic systems, wiring, frames, and suspension, and protect towbars, lights, rear axles, and brakes. They also reduce corrosion of metal parts from road salt and chemicals. Reduced spray of water and stones onto following vehicles reduces the risk of damage and accidents.
